Have you ever heard of PTSD?
Of course you have, it’s affects are devastating and it tears lives, relationships and homes apart. Even if one doesn’t have full blown PTSD, most of us have some memories that are not setting well within. When we think of them, we go into a spiral of negative self talk, we might react in some kind of a “LOOPY” way or in the case of actual PTSD, we go into survival mood, the immediate need is to save the body and the brain goes into this loop which can create and undesired outcome and may include feelings of regret and shame. PTSD is not a sickness, it just means we have created loops in the brain to protect our body, it’s only goal is to survive. There is a way out of the loop, by working with the brain. This is not talk therapy, and we don’t have to share any stories or past memories for this to work (it is preferable that we don’t). In this intervention, clients are given tools to use to overcome negative reactions to memories and feelings that brought on undesirable thoughts and outcomes in the past. We change how one reacts in the hear and now. It’s powerful.
